Piazza Vittorio Veneto - Hypogeum (Matera)
Filosofia del progetto

The Piazza Vittorio Veneto Hypogeum represent the "hidden heart" of the ancient city of Matera. Concealed until the end of the 1700s, at the end of the construction of the Annunziata Monastery, they came back to light with the work being done at Piazza Vittorio Veneto during 1994.  The community understood that the value of its historic assets was both an obligation and an opportunity for Matera.  The City of the Sassi Unesco World Heritage Site discovered its primary welcoming point in the Hypogeum that would represent the synthesis of its excavated architecture, its spectacular cisterns for gathering water, the frescoed rocky churches, the palmenti and the remains of the towers and defensive walls.
